We Made It

It’s the weekend again and we made it!! Hallelujah! Forgive everyone of everything and have a wonderful weekend! 😀

Numbers 6:24-26  24 The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:  25 The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:  26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Have a Glad Heart

Proverbs 15:15 (amp) says, All the days of the afflicted are bad, But a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of the circumstances].

For some strange reason, Bobby McFerrin popped in my head after reading this scripture. Well, you might as well sing it with me. A one and two and a  . . .

Ooh-ooh-hoo-hoo-ooh hoo-hoo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Don’t worry
Woo-ooh-woo-ooh-woo-ooh-ooh
Be happy
Woo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Don’t worry, be happy 😀

Less than ideal things will happen to us; things we have no control over. However, we can control our reaction. Now that you’ve read this post, you will be singing Don’t Worry Be Happy all day. LOL You’re welcome! I’m not exempt. I’m . . .

Win Your Race

Hebrews 12:1,2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We all have our own race. We will win if we keep our eyes on Jesus. Guaranteed!!

I’m Getting Better

Have you ever seen the movie The Fly 2? Remember the part towards the end when the girl saw that her boo had morphed into a fly-guy, literally? She crept her way into the room where he’s sitting. Her facial expression screamed, “YOU NEED SURGERY, A TRANSPLANT, MEDICATION, SOMETHING!” But she actually said, “Uh, I think you’re getting worse.” LOL  As the fly-guy lifted his deformed hand he said, “I’m getting better.”

Okay, in the movie, the girl was right. The fly-guy was doomed. What’s my point right? Well, I’ve been working on the preliminary edits for my book for the last few days. To be honest, there’s A LOT to do. Ultimately, this whole process is making me a better writer. It really is. But when I first opened the document with the edits, I felt like how the fly-guy looked. LOL Of course the devil was right there like, “Dang! That’s gonna take you forever.” 😦 LOL

You may not be editing a book, but you may be facing a difficult task. When the enemy creeps up to you and utters, “Uh, I think you’re getting worse”, just say with confidence, even if you resemble the fly-guy, “I’m getting better.” 😀 I know this is kind of corny, but this is what I do to make myself laugh instead of throwing in the towel. I have to remind myself to focus on God and to keep moving forward. Galatians 6:9 says, And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

I’m looking forward to finishing this process. 😀 I appreciate every suggestion in that document. Thank God for my publishing company. 😀

107.5 Memory Lane

The passing of one of our favorite DJs, Doug Banks aka Dan Ryan Head, made my husband and me take a trip down Memory Lane. It’s been a long time since we heard Doug Banks on the radio, but that didn’t lessen the blow one bit. Facebook posts with his picture and videos brought back so many memories like listening to him crack jokes, talk about what was going on in the news, or calling into the station to try to win a prize. Speaking of winning a prize, I won a pair of concert tickets and I had to sing the first couple of bars of a song. Yup, live on the radio. Doug Banks said I sounded like Lisa Simpson and he was right. 😀

From what I heard and read, he died from complications of diabetes. For over thirty years, he did what he loved and dare I say, what he was put on this earth to do. He loved people and had a heart of gold.

Radio and music was a big part of my childhood home. There was always a radio playing in our house. We even had a radio in our bathroom that came on when we turned on the light. LOL My sister, Lynda, used to make the best mixtapes back in the day. 😀 She would always recruit me to sit by the radio ALL DAY so that I could push the record button when her song of choice would finally play. “Tan, don’t push record until the DJ stops talking and after the call letters.” LOL Now that I think about it, I made those mixtapes. 😀

We hear and read about celebrities dying practically everyday. It’s very sad. Doug Banks was like Chicago’s very own celebrity, even though he was a DJ in other places. 😀 I don’t know. Maybe in order for you to understand what I’m saying, you had to experience trying to win a prize by listening for 107.5 WGCI’s Top 8 at 8. Or when asked what your favorite radio station was, with a high level of enthusiasm you answered, WGCI and triple dot that “I”. 😀

Live your life to the fullest and stay focused on God. Praying for Doug’s family and friends. RIP Dan Ryan Head.

Thankful for Peaceful Nights Like This

On this chilly and rainy Friday night, Antoine, Scout, and I are vegging out in front of the TV. Free Stars preview, y’all. My attempt to watch My Girl was interrupted by Colors. Yuck!! 😦 How long has Robert Duvall, who is an excellent actor overall, been old? I think the oldest movie I saw him in was To Kill a Mockingbird. He looked old in that movie too. 😀 I don’t remember how I lost the conn, that’s what we call the remote control in our house. LOL

After 20 minutes of exaggerated slang and bad acting, the conn found its way back to me. We ended up watching Ricki and the Flash starring Meryl Streep, great actress, and wait for it, wait for it Rick Springfield-You know I wish that I had Jessie’s girl.
I wish that I had Jessie’s girl. Where can I find a woman like that? 😀

I thought it was good, but my wonderful husband said it was a bit cheesy. It’s about “a middle-aged musician who left her family years before in order to follow her dreams of becoming a rock star, then tries to reconnect with her estranged children.” Yup, copied that right off the TV. 😀 I think it’s worth watching.

Anyway, this post is way longer than I planned. I really just want to say, be thankful for what you have and the people in your life. They’re here for a reason. I’m thankful for peaceful nights like this. I’m a blessed woman indeed. 😀

Exceedingly Abundantly

Ephesians 3:20-21 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

That’s all. 😀

Cool Stick Figure Drawing

I actually left our property today. LOL 😀 I couldn’t figure out if I wanted to go to Target to buy the latest Star Wars movie or run to Starbucks for an Ice Coffee black NO MILK!! 😀 Since our German Shepherd, Scout, isn’t allowed in Target, I decided to go to the Starbucks with a drive thru window. 😀 I’ve actually been in Illinois all day. Well, not actually there physically . . . in my mind. Before you start thinking that I need some kind of medication, the book that I’m working on takes place in Illinois, at least the part that I wrote today.

If you read my short post yesterday, you know I love the writer’s camp I recently joined. It’s a bunch of Christian writer’s (women) with families, jobs, and other responsibilities, but we try to squeeze in as much writing as we can because we ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! We encourage, pray, chat, and hold each other accountable to the goals we’ve set for the month. Why do I love it so much? Because I’m among people who have the same passion for writing. That’s something that I’ve wanted for a long time, but never did anything about it. I’m telling you, the old comfort zone is a trip. If we’re not careful, it can make us think we don’t need stuff that we do. Know what I mean, Vern? (Ernest P. Worrell)

Anyway, I added a whopping 4800+ words today to my WIP. Not too shabby. 😀

No Time To Waste

I LOVE THE WRITER’S CAMP I JOINED!!! Wait, did I say I LOVE THE WRITER’S CAMP??? 😀 I do. Although I don’t avoid meeting new peeps, I usually don’t go out of my way  to do so. I’ve met a lot of wonderful writers from all over including, wait for it, wait for it, SOUTH AFRICA!!! 😀 If you know me, you know how much I love South Africa. 😀 Lots of smiley faces in this post. 😀 😀 😀 LOL I have so much to learn and so much to create. 😀

No time to waste people. Walk in purpose!!

Let That Marinate

Tonight as I drift off to sleep, I will think about Mark 10:27, But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”
