107.5 Memory Lane

The passing of one of our favorite DJs, Doug Banks aka Dan Ryan Head, made my husband and me take a trip down Memory Lane. It’s been a long time since we heard Doug Banks on the radio, but that didn’t lessen the blow one bit. Facebook posts with his picture and videos brought back so many memories like listening to him crack jokes, talk about what was going on in the news, or calling into the station to try to win a prize. Speaking of winning a prize, I won a pair of concert tickets and I had to sing the first couple of bars of a song. Yup, live on the radio. Doug Banks said I sounded like Lisa Simpson and he was right. 😀

From what I heard and read, he died from complications of diabetes. For over thirty years, he did what he loved and dare I say, what he was put on this earth to do. He loved people and had a heart of gold.

Radio and music was a big part of my childhood home. There was always a radio playing in our house. We even had a radio in our bathroom that came on when we turned on the light. LOL My sister, Lynda, used to make the best mixtapes back in the day. 😀 She would always recruit me to sit by the radio ALL DAY so that I could push the record button when her song of choice would finally play. “Tan, don’t push record until the DJ stops talking and after the call letters.” LOL Now that I think about it, I made those mixtapes. 😀

We hear and read about celebrities dying practically everyday. It’s very sad. Doug Banks was like Chicago’s very own celebrity, even though he was a DJ in other places. 😀 I don’t know. Maybe in order for you to understand what I’m saying, you had to experience trying to win a prize by listening for 107.5 WGCI’s Top 8 at 8. Or when asked what your favorite radio station was, with a high level of enthusiasm you answered, WGCI and triple dot that “I”. 😀

Live your life to the fullest and stay focused on God. Praying for Doug’s family and friends. RIP Dan Ryan Head.

Just blogging it out . . . Oh and Happy Monday Night!
