When You Know, You Know!

We adopted another dog!! Yay! My husband and I started talking about getting another dog about a month or two ago. That’s a conversation I thought would never happen after our German Shepherd, Scout, died. (So sad.) We decided any medium-sized, short-haired dog would do.

Last Saturday, we hopped in the car and drove to a local shelter to look at pooches. We walked through the loud, stinky bungalows, browsing the cages to find our next pet. A few caught our eye, but we continued our stroll, passing one kennel after the other. Until we saw that little face with the big eyes gazing up at us. I thought she was young until I read her profile. Her body didn’t resemble the description of the seven-year-old Boxer whom they named Mona, of all names. She was clearly underweight and birthed a few litters of puppies. The staff informed us that she had only been there for a few days.

We asked if we could spend some time with her to observe her behavior and get a closer look at her scrawny body. Some minutes later, we started the process of taking her home. When You Know, You Know! They scheduled her spay surgery, and she was at our house by Tuesday afternoon.

Boots has settled into her new home, and she feels the love. We’ll do our best to keep her with us as long as possible. I’m glad we can provide a home for a senior dog. They’re usually the last to be adopted, if ever. She may not be with us long, but we will make the best of our time.
