Turn It Around

Here we are 11 days into spring and 21 days into good old Daylight saving time. Don’t cha just love losing an hour of sleep. Yippee! 🙂

If you sense a bit of sarcasm, you’re absolutely correctamundo. I’m not a fan of daylight saving time at all, but I’ll get over it. LOL

What are your thoughts on daylight saving time?

On another note, Southern California is officially out of its drought. YIPPEE!! No sarcasm there at all. The wildflowers are in bloom, our lawn is greener than it has been in years, and the monarch butterflies paid us a visit on their way to Oregon. In my area, the poppies are all the rage, but my favorite wildflower is the tidytips (Layia platyglossa), featured in the photo. I love their simplicity. Although I’m not the type of person who enjoys receiving flowers as a gift, I appreciate their beauty in their natural habitat.

Now on with the topic, #CheckYourHeart!

I recently had a conversation with someone who I haven’t spoken with in a long while. Honestly, I was a little leery about returning the phone call. As a matter of fact, I didn’t until the next day. The call started off with the usual catch up questions: How are you? What’s new? Do you still live in the same place?

The latter is always surprising. How often do owners sell their home’s and move away? LOL Anywho, as the conversation progressed, she got down to the nitty-gritty. Complaints! I knew they were coming.

Usually, when we choose someone to vent to, it’s because we know the person will be able to relate to what we’re talking about, or at least we hope they will. We want someone to say we have a right to feel a certain way, or our reaction was justified. It’s a normal part of being human.

Here’s where I had to check my heart. Her stories were all TOO familiar. I felt the sting of disappointment as she poured out her heart. The conversation could’ve quickly turned into a backbiting session, and I’m sure the enemy was sitting right there waiting like. . .

I Thessalonians 5:11 says, So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

It’s so easy to join a negative conversation. I mean, we can all tell stories about people who have wronged us and it’s quite exhilarating. However, as Christians, we need to Turn It Around.

I could’ve added A LOT of negativity to that conversation. I mean A LOT. Instead, I listened (to a point) to show her that I cared and then I encouraged her. I let her know I could definitely relate to how she was feeling. The last thing people need is for us to act like nothing bothers us. Transparency is essential.

Engaging in a conversation like the one I had can be kind of tricky. Because the person wants so badly for their feelings to be validated, they may drop hints that some bad things have been said about you too. Know what I mean? That’s when you really have to #CheckYourHeart. You have to recognize that it’s all derived from their hurt. In my Forrest Gump voice,

At the end of the conversation, she told me she felt better and encouraged. She realized she needed to focus on the Lord. I’ve been there…we’ve all been there.

If you find yourself complaining and irritated about everything under the sun, or deliberately trying to hurt someone with your words, you may need to #CheckYourHeart.

I’m not exempt. I’m just…

Blogging it out! Have a blessed week and keep on praying!!

  1. I really enjoy daylight saving time because it doesn’t get dark until later. It’s much easier to fall into the trap of negative conversation and complaining, but everyone benefits when we don’t.

  2. I’d just like to say with the way I’ve worked over the last 14 years daylight savings time doesn’t really bother me. My days and nights just flow together and my 2:00 AM might catch me more alert than my 2:00 PM. Such is the life of a railroader.
Now about Looking for someone to validate your feelings is pretty close to home with me. I have a few people close to me that feel the need to share with me because I’m always the one who’ll go along to get along. Lately I’ve been working on speaking the truth even though they may not like it. I guess I’m learning that me sleeping at night knowing I did what’s right is more important to me than going along so they can sleep. It’s funny how as you grow you’re circle gets smaller. Such is life!!

Proverbs 15:9 says, “The LORD detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.”

    1. I think we all like to have someone to tell us that what we are feeling is valid. Sometimes we need to discuss our feelings. It’s important to have people in our inner circle who will listen and encourage instead of adding more negativity. I thank God for what He’s doing in my heart. As Christians, we should always speak the truth in love, of course. Start with grace and then slap em with the truth. LOL
I’m just kidding. No slapping allowed. Yup, get used to the smaller circle. It’s all a part of growing in Christ. Have a blessed week and thank you for reading and commenting.

  3. I don’t ever remember having a problem with daylight savings time. I do an inside chuckle when I hear people complain about it. Then I think to myself, oh well that’s their issue, not mine. I do wait anxiously for the longer daylight days.

Recently, I’ve found myself being drawn(baited) into negative conversations too and with a quickening from the Holy Spirit, I recognize what’s going on and I don’t feed into it either. In fact, it has happened twice. I tried to encourage both people but one of them just wouldn’t receive the encouragement. I found it very funny what was going on and on one hand, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing but then I just listened and tried to interject but this person just wasn’t having it. I mean they kept shutting down everything I said as it pertained to the Lord. Needless to say, that person barely speaks to me now and I’m ok with that.

The other person did receive the encouragement and is now looking at their situation a little differently.

As I get older, I’m noticing a lot of things irritate me. As I get older I want my life to be “Easy Like Sunday Morning”. I’m picking up my cross daily Luke 9:23 and asking the Lord to help me on my daily journey in Him. Checking my heart and reminding myself that no matter what comes my way His strength is perfect in weakness. 2 Cor 12:9
